Ramblings

Sorry this was supposed to be posted on Wednesday. For some reason I wasn't able to log on to blogger until today. Anyway, I didn't want to waste it, so here you go.

I’m working downstairs in my bedroom, where the computer my boss is letting me use is set up. It sure is different being home all day. Upstairs I can hear Rebecca and Esther tearing through the house making their usual joyous noise. Esther must be pushing the doll stroller, from the racket. But if I keep the door shut, I’m not interrupted.
Today is Wednesday, which means piano lessons for Emily and Rosemary. Mom went along today to pick up some supplies for preschool, which is at our house today. The came back at lunch, and now they are all getting ready for the kids to come. I’ve never been home on a preschool day before, so I think I might slip upstairs later and check it out. The dogs are barking now; someone must be bringing their kids. Last night we all tried our hands at making monkey masks for the skit the preschoolers are doing for the Harvest Supper on Friday. I’ll make sure to go up and watch them practice that at least.
Tonight I have to go out too. I learned Corel WordPerfect inside out while working at Inheritance, but in future I will be using Microsoft Word more, so I’m taking a course in Westlock at the Adult Learning Centre. Probably get back kind of late tonight, depending on the roads.
Break’s over. I suppose I should finish this off and go back to Second Samuel.

Short People by Randy Newman

Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live

They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin’ great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
’Round here

Short people are just the same
As you and I
(A fool such as I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It’s a wonderful world)

Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick ’em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin’ peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They’re gonna get you every time

Well, I don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
Don’t want no short people
’Round here

31 October 2004

Just an update for those who are interested.

I went to a lung specialist in Edmonton on Wednesday. The doctor examined me and all of the x-rays, and in short, told me that I'm OK. He said I have 39% more of a chance of having my lung collapse again for the next year, but didn't give me many restrictions as to activities or exercise. Apparently this happens spontaneously to tall thin people. Anyway, I'm just thankful it wasn't any more serious.
Because I'm still pretty tired and get winded easily, I'm only working behind the computer at the moment, no lifting of boxes of books or packing or anything. So my boss offered to let me to use one of his computers to work at home for the time being. That starts tomorrow.

On another note, on Wednesday I also went to the college in Spruce Grove and registered. Now I am officially going!

Sibling Sillies

Last night we had hamburgers for supper, our usual Saturday night fare. Esther (3) still has trouble pronouncing "hamburger". That reminded me of what Rebecca used to call them when she was little: "hammagers". Once I said to her, "Becca, it's ham-BUR-gers." She tried valiantly to say it right, and ended up with, "Hammagerbers."

A quiz. How unique.

1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A SECOND HOUSE ANYWHERE,WHERE WOULD IT BE?
In the English countryside, a nice little Tudor-style cottage with gardens all around.

2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING?
right now that would have to be fleece pjs and warm socks :-)

3. THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT?
Michael Card – The Ancient Faith

4. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
As late as possible! I have to be at work by 8:00, so 7:00 is (squeaking it) fine.

5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE?
um … kitchen appliance? I don’t have to time to use one. I think my favourite would be mom’s K-tech Kitchen Champ 12-in-1 machine if I did.

6. IF YOU COULD PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I play flute and piano. I’ve always wanted to learn violin, but never had the opportunity or money.

7. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV?
definitely sports car. I like vintage Corvettes and new Ferraris

8. DO YOU BELIEVE IN AFTERLIFE?
“…Good place and bad place / And which place choose you?”

9. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK?A tossup between Love Me Forever or Doctor Suess stories…

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON?
Summer *shiver*

11. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
an unfailing memory and knowledge of everything. That was two, but while we’re at it anyways…

12. IF YOU HAVE A TATTOO, WHAT IS IT?
lol do you know my dad?

13. CAN YOU JUGGLE?
nope, not unless you count multi-tasking in the car. I can drive my standard, talk on the phone, chew gum, and apply lip gloss at once.

14. THE ONE PERSON/PEOPLE FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU COULD GO BACK AND TALK TO?
My Oma Hoff. She had a stroke last year and can’t communicate or understand clearly anymore. Now I wish I had made the most of our few visits and talked to her more.

15. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DAY?
At the moment, any day that’s not a work day. :-/

16. WHAT'S IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR?
Two full water jugs, flat tire from Friday in the city, car jack, red fleece emergency blanket, extra gloves and socks, and two loose speakers.

17. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SUSHI OR HAMBURGER?
never having tried/intending to try sushi (raw meat is from the cave-man era!) I would have to say hamburger. Now there are many ways to cook hamburger. My favourite is with Dutch gehakt kruiden rolled into meatballs and fried, with gravy. Ummmmmm.

18. FROM THE PEOPLE WHO WILL SEE THIS, WHO'S MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND FIRST?I have no idea how well (or un)-known this blog is, so your guess is as good as mine.

19. WHO'S LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND?
those who never read it :-p

20. WHO DID YOU RECEIVE THIS FROM?
I stole it from Bethany’s blog, without her knowledge. I’m too lazy to write and ask. I don’t know if she even knows who I am. :-) (sorry Bethany!)

21. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER?
white rose. But if I ever see a rose the colour of blue flax, that would be my flower.

22. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL?Thanksgiving dinner. Really, I dunno. I eat whatever mom plunks in front of me. Otherwise I would have to say an Indonesian dish, such as nasi goereng or bami with pinda saus and saute and atjar tjampoer and lots of steamed vegetables.
I think I might use this blog to post something occasionally. I don't have time to keep it up right now, but come check it out once in a while to see if there is anything new.
