I suppose I’d better go out to help Mom. Just about every day these last few months, we have had to thaw out our sewer pump-out. We think the pump must be sending just a trickle of water through the pipes, which freezes the pump-out pipes solid. Then we have to run garden hoses from the water heater in the basement out to the field to thaw it out. Stupid system. And it appears to be my turn. gnnnrrrrrr.

Oh, and tonight is Young People’s.

Reminds me of way back in the day when our stream dried up in the winter (we pumped our own water at my parents' house), and we had to pump water up to the main well from an auxilliary well further downstream where there was water. Pumping it was the easy part, but then we had to empty the pipe because it was above ground and would otherwise freeze. It's a good distance from one well to the next, and we had to hold it over our heads at each length to make sure there was no water left inside.

Auxiliary is supposed to have only one L, but somehow I published it accidentally.

yeah that's the way we empty the hoses when we're done, or else they freeze solid.
